The Kublai Khan’s intense fondness of the Polos caused a problem for the Polos in many ways. One way is that the Polos wanted to return to Europe after many years of service. While in service for the Khan, Marco Polo was sent on many diplomatic missions. Upon return from these missions he would have new stories and descriptions to share. The Polos were denied their requests to return to Europe because the Khan was so fond of these stories. This obstacle was overcome when, finally, the Khan allowed them to accompany a Mongolian princess to Persia. Once she arrived safely, the Polos traveled back to Venice.
